A severe tropical storm called Sendong caused catastrophic damage in the southern part of the Philippines, particularly in the City of Cagayan De Oro and Illigan City. Flash flooding triggered by Sendong resulted in more than 1,200 fatalities and more than over one hundred thousand people displaced.
Vision Help International Care Foundation immediately responded to the government’s call for help and dispatched a team of local and foreign staff to the City of Cagayan De Oro.
For exactly 40 days, our team was present, distributing 150,000 water purification tablets, 1,000 water purification bottles, 12,850 hygiene kits as well as organized daily feeding programs amidst the various evacuation centers within the vicinity of Cagayan De Oro. Additional focus was given to the children where we distributed over 2,500 toys and provided daily rations of bottled water, fruits and lunch meals. Furthermore, there was a provision of blankets, tarpaulines, kitchen supplies and sleeping mattresses to over 340 people along mayor road and highways that sought shelter on higher grounds.
